Global Search
Global Search helps you find transactions and sheets without opening each sheet one by one.
Use the search field from the sheets screen or inside a sheet. As you type, Expenses searches across your data and shows matching transactions and sheets.
What Global Search Can Find
Global Search can match:
- Transaction category, such as
GroceriesorSalary - Description or note text
- Merchant name
- Amounts, including rounded displayed amounts
- Sheet name
- Sheet currency code, such as
USD,EUR, orJPY - Date section titles shown in search results
For example:
- Search
coffeeto find coffee-related expenses, matching categories, merchants, notes, or sheet names. - Search
59to find transactions whose displayed amount starts with 59, such as 59 or 59.80. - Search
USDto find sheets that use USD.
When you open a result, Expenses takes you to that transaction or sheet.
Result Sections
Search results are grouped so you can understand what kind of result you are opening.
Transaction results may appear under:
- As of Today: current transactions that count in the normal sheet view.
- Upcoming: future transactions.
- Next Occurrence: the next generated occurrence of a recurring item.
- Pending: items marked as pending.
- Archived: transactions from archived sheets.
Sheet results appear under Sheets.
When you are searching from inside a sheet, matching transactions from that sheet are shown first within their date group. This makes it easier to keep working in the sheet you already have open while still seeing matches from other sheets.
Actions from Search Results
You can open a transaction from search results, and you can also use the transaction actions menu for common edits. Use the row’s swipe actions or context menu when available.
Available actions depend on the transaction and sheet. For example, a read-only shared sheet may limit editing actions.
Search Tips
Use Global Search when you know part of what you are looking for, such as a merchant, amount, category, or sheet name.
If you want to review a controlled set of items in the current sheet, use Sheet Filters instead.
